Overview
We’re hiring a hands-on, commercially minded Tax Manager to take ownership of a UK tax footprint within a fast-paced international group. This is an opportunity to shape and evolve a UK tax capability, with broad exposure across corporate tax, VAT, transfer pricing support, and global compliance coordination.
This is a standalone UK-based role suited to someone who enjoys autonomy and ownership, while partnering closely with senior tax leadership, external advisors across multiple jurisdictions, and stakeholders across Finance, Legal, HR, Payroll, Treasury and Operations.
Key responsibilities
UK direct & indirect tax
- Lead the end-to-end UK corporate tax compliance cycle, including returns, group relief, quarterly instalment payments, interest restrictions and statutory submissions.
- Oversee UK VAT compliance and technical positions, including cross-border supplies, input/output tax reviews, and coordination with external providers preparing VAT returns.
- Support and advise on UK employment tax matters and international mobility issues as required.
- Own HMRC interactions across corporate tax, VAT and employment tax enquiries/audits.
International compliance & advisor management
- Manage Pillar Two compliance, monitor OECD/EU/UK developments and advise on implications for the group.
- Prepare Country-by-Country Reporting and support compliance with public CbCR requirements where applicable.
- Coordinate outsourced advisors and compliance providers across multiple jurisdictions, ensuring consistent, timely delivery of corporate tax, VAT, transfer pricing and other filings.
- Act as the UK operational hub for international compliance processes, ensuring alignment with group tax leadership.
- Oversee service levels and fees; drive improvements in tax governance and compliance processes.
- Maintain intercompany agreements and support global transfer pricing documentation.
Strategic & cross-border advisory
- Support group-wide tax planning, restructurings, M&A, financing arrangements and legal entity rationalisation initiatives.
- Assess cross-border tax implications for cash repatriation (e.g., withholding taxes, treaty access, thin capitalisation).
- Partner with UK and European stakeholders to provide commercially focused, practical tax advice.
Business partnering
- Act as the UK point of contact for tax matters across Finance, Legal, HR, Payroll, Operations and Treasury.
- Partner with Treasury on tax-compliant intercompany financing and cash movements.
- Translate complex tax issues into clear, practical guidance for non-tax stakeholders.
- Contribute to group tax policy, risk management and governance.
- Help shape scalable processes as the UK tax capability evolves, with potential to support or develop junior capability over time.
Experience & qualifications
- Qualified ACA / CA / ACCA / CTA (or equivalent).
- 6–8+ years’ UK tax experience (corporate tax and VAT essential; employment tax exposure helpful).
- Background in practice (Big 4 / top tier) and/or in-house.
- Experience managing external advisors and/or coordinating multi-jurisdictional compliance.
- Strong technical grounding in UK corporate tax, VAT and cross-border transactions.
- Strong communication and organisation skills; able to work independently and manage competing priorities.
Desirable skills & attributes
- Commercial, pragmatic problem-solver who enjoys working in evolving environments.
- Comfortable operating autonomously while collaborating with international colleagues.
- Motivated by building better processes, improving efficiency and supporting long-term strategic goals.
